OREGON, WI. (May 1, 2005) -- When the Wisconsin Challenge Series contest at Madison International Raceway was called off due to weather, it established two notorious records for the Wisconsin Challenge Series.

First, it marked the first time in the series history that it's debut event at a raceway would be postponed, and secondly it marked the second straight event the series has attempted this season that fell to weather.  Mother Nature 2 - WCS 0 for the past two contests.  In series history never has back to back events fallen due to weather.  Until now.

"I'm sure it's frustrating to the competitors and fans as we got off to a great start this year for the series at Dells back in early April.  We had a great show then, just that we have not been able to get back to racing since", noted series events director Jeffrey Sachse. "The Madison race was lining up to be a record setter with the turnout of cars that were on hand,  Plus the practice times the day before looked like it could establish a all-time series speed mark in qualifying".

The show, the Miller Lite 100 was to have featured the first ever appearance for the Wisconsin Challenge Series Super Late Models on Madison International Speedway's high banked half-mile and over 40 cars turned out for practice on Saturday afternoon.  However on Sunday as competitors were entering the pit area, rain and snow showers hit the racetrack soaking the stands, pits and racing surface.  That coupled with extremely cold temperatures which barely edged into the 40 degree range the track and series agreed to postpone the show.

The event will be rescheduled for Sunday Afternoon, August 7th and will be run in it's entirety.  Negotiations by the speedway are already underway with several of the guest drivers.  It appears that Wisconsin Racing Legend Dick Trickle may be on hand for the makeup event.

"There was an exceptional group of talented racers on hand for the event and I do believe many will be back in August", noted Sachse.

The August 7th contest will again feature a 100 lap main event. The race will be stopped at the 50 lap mark, allowing drivers to add fuel, adjust their cars and head back to the track for the final 50 lap dash to the checkered, adding for a new level of strategy.

In addition to the main event a pair of very important 25 lap qualifying races will take place to set the balance of the field.

It is also expected a return of the Big Eight Series Limited Late Models will join the card for the program. Time for the show will remain the same for August 7th. Pit gates will open at 10:00 AM. Hot laps begin at Noon with qualifying at 1:30. Racing action begins at 3:00 PM.

Madison International Raceway is located between Oregon and Stoughton of Sunset Road just off Highway 138.  For additional information check out the track website at www.gotomis.com or please call the track at 608.835.9700 or email the raceway at mismedia2@yahoo.com.
