WISCONSIN CHALLENGE SERIES SETS AMBITIOUS 2006 SERIES SCHEDULE!

APPLETON, WI. (January 9, 2006) - The Wisconsin challenge series has announced its 2006 Racing schedule, and the season ahead looks to be an exciting one as the series marks it’s sixth year of competition this upcoming season.

The Super Late Model series continues to offer a schedule where travel proves to be a minimal for both teams and fans to wishing to follow the series.

The season will be comprised of twelve events at seven different racing facilities and will include the first ever stop for the series outside the state’s namesake as a trip over the border into Illinois will occur this year..

The schedule should prove to be especially challenging as participants in the Wisconsin Challenge Series will compete on raceways ranging from ¼ mile to one for my long length.

The newest stops on the series schedule this year will include trips to Rockford Speedway (Rockford, IL) and the Milwaukee Mile (Milwaukee, WI).

The Rockford Speedway will host the 2006 season opening event which will take place the first weekend in April.

Practice, qualifying and qualifying races will take place on Saturday, April 1st, while the feature events will take place on Sunday afternoon April 2nd .

The stop at Rockford speedway will mark the first time the Wisconsin challenge series has traveled outside the state of Wisconsin.

A good number of participants will be making their first career start at Rockford Speedway, while several others will be making their first appearance in several seasons at the Northern Illinois raceway.

After the Rockford Speedway opener, the Wisconsin Challenge Series will travel to Dells Motor Speedway, for the series traditional spring stop on Saturday night Apil 22nd.

The third stop on the schedule will mark the first appearance of the season at Madison International Speedway. While two events had been planned during the 2005 season, weather would prevent last May’s race from taking place. A later date was postponed due to a scheduling conflict. So this year’s race on Sunday afternoon May 7th will mark the first of for the Wisconsin challenge series at the high banked half mile oval. It will also mark the ninth different track to host a WCS race in Wisconsin since the series existence.

The first WCS contest of the 2006 season at Wisconsin International Raceway will take place on Sunday afternoon May 21 . Last season 59 entries had appeared for the spring race at WIR, establishing one of the largest fields of cars for the that raceway’s Spring Opener.

On Memorial Day the Wisconsin challenge series will return to its birthplace at Golden Sands Speedway for the Memorial 100. The Memorial 100 has become one of the standout racing events in Central Wisconsin racing each summer.

The series will then be off during the month of June, and intermission of sorts separating the two halves of the schedule.

The second half of the 2006 season will begin on Saturday night July 1st at Dells Motor Speedway with the running of the North American Cup. The North American Cup has been one of the highlights of the Wisconsin Challenge Series schedule the past several seasons with several first time winners taking the checkered flag during that contest. The semi-banked 1/3 mile oval is second only to Golden Sands Speedway in the number of the events WCS has held at a single raceway.

The next stop will be the mid-summer race at Marshfield Speedway on Saturday night July 15. The wide and smooth half-mile oval has seen some dramatic finishes and some hard racing since the series began competing at the central Wisconsin oval back in 2002.

The final event for the month of July will be on Friday evening July 28th at Golden Sands Speedway as WCS makes its final appearance of the 2006 season on the high banked third mile oval.

The season begins to wind down with two races in August. Both events are new this year. The first stop will be on Saturday night August 19th at Wisconsin international Speedway. For the first time in series history, WCS will play a role in determining the champion of the Red, White and Blue state championship series. The Red, White and Blue series is Wisconsin’s longest running super late model special.

The final race in August, on Sunday Afternoon the 27th, will mark the first appearance for the Wisconsin Challenge Series on the Milwaukee Mile. The largest rack ever to host a WCS race, it measures out at a full mile in length. The Milwaukee Mile is steep in racing tradition as the facility has been hosting motorsports events for over 100 years.

The final two races of the 2006 season will take place in September.

On Friday night September 8th Madison International Speedway will conclude its Friday night programs for the year with a second WCS event of the season.

The traditional season finale will then play out on Saturday night September 16th, at Marshfield speedway. That evening will bring to an end a high powered season of action for the Wisconsin Challenge Series with the crowning of the 2006 series champion and the traditional post season celebrations on the raceway grounds.
