(MARSHFIELD, WI) – Continuing a
tradition of value for the race fan and
affordability for the racer, the
Wisconsin Challenge Series heads into
the 2008 season with a nine race
schedule. The events are being
held at the series long time supporters
and the schedule tuned to reduce travel
and overnight expense, basically a
return to the roots of what has made the
series so successful over the past seven
seasons.
Hosted at five different facilities,
Dells Raceway Park, Golden Sands
Speedway, Marshfield Super Speedway,
Wisconsin International Raceway and
Madison International Speedway, the main
objective to the schedule is to return
to the series roots to make it as
appealing as possible to the weekly
racing competitor at those raceway's and
track which have similar types of Super
Late Model cars. It is expected
that the schedule will allow race teams
to compete with a minimum of travel and
lodging expense, and for the fan the
vast majority of events will be priced
at $15 or less for an adult admission
ticket, making these shows among the
most fan friendly specials available
anywhere during the 2008 season.
Fans will get to visit the revamped and
improved Dells Raceway Park for the
season opening event on Saturday April
26th, at the third-mile semi-banked
asphalt oval. The event marks the
return to the raceway which hosted
season opening shows during the seasons
from 2002 through 2005 where the
contests saw such notable winners as
local favorite Kevin Brescia as well as
standout competitors Erik Darnell and
Charlie Menard. The second event
of the season is now being held at
Marshfield Super Speedway which will
bring Wisconsin Challenge Series action
to the half-mile semi-banked oval on
Saturday Night, May 17th. Next up
will be the annual Memorial 100 at the
series birthplace, Golden Sands Speedway
as the area's finest Super Late Model
pilots tackle the high banked third mile
oval on Monday Afternoon, May 26th.
Traditional events mark the next several
contests as Wisconsin International
Raceway will have the Wisconsin
Challenge Series appear at both the Red
and White races as part of the long
standing Red, White and Blue State
Championship Series. The Red
Race will take place on Saturday Night
June 14th, with the White Race taking
place on Saturday Night July 19.
Sandwiched between the two WIR contests
will be the return of the Wisconsin
Challenge Series to Dells Raceway Park
for the traditional North American Cup
100 event on Saturday Night July 5th.
The season heads into the final stretch
with a pair of Friday Night events.
In August, Golden Sands Speedway hosts
the first Friday Night contest on August
1st, followed by the series lone
appearance at Madison International
Speedway on Friday Night September 5th.
The season will conclude for the fifth
consecutive year at Marshfield Super
Speedway on Sunday Afternoon, September
14th.
The entire 2008 schedule has been built
with both the fan and racer in mind.
All are single day contests and the
maximum travel time between any of the
tracks on the schedule is approximately
two hours.
Other features of the 2008 season will
be a revamped championship points race
which will allow competitors to throw
out their worst performance of the 2008
season, and the continuation of several
used tire shows where a specific number
of used tires are required in effort to
reduce the event costs to the racer.
Memberships for the 2008 season will be
$40, with the benefit for the member to
be included in the series travel plan,
point fund and to save a minimum of $10
on race day entry costs at each of the
series events. A special first 40
membership contest will take place
beginning Friday January 25th.
Race teams among the first 40 to signup
for the 2008 season will be eligible for
a drawing for a free Hoosier tire and
the runner-up will receive one free race
day entry. Both the
electronic and printable membership form
will be found on the main page of the
Wisconsin Challenge Series website at
www.wisconsinchallenge.com beginning
at Noon on Friday, January 25th.
Entry into the contest is secured with
the receipt of membership payment.
Updates on the 2008 season for the
Wisconsin Challenge Series will be made
on the series website at
www.wisconsinchallenge.com, which
will feature the Thursday News Tidbit.
The weekly feature which will be updated
every Thursday will be designed to
highlight various aspects of the series
for both fans and drivers. The
first such tidbit will appear on
Thursday, January 31st.
